  • On Friday 27th May Maureen Emerson will be giving a talk, on the life of Winifred Fortescue and her circle, at The Victoria, a retirement home near Cannes which has risen from the demise of the Anglo-American Hospital of Cannes. While in the south of France she will be continuing research on her new book Living and Loving on the Riviera – The Story of the Architect Barry Dierks. There is now an excellent page on Facebook, ‘Barry Dierks Architect’, showing many pictures of his stunning Riviera houses.”

marks the 60th anniversary of Winifred Fortescue's death at Opio

  •  New photo's have been added! Elisabeth Starr at age 31 yrs on a Christmas message card and a photograph of the studio in St. Tropez that was kept by Elisabeth. She and Winifred stayed there during the weeks that Sunset House was being prepared and extended for Winifred. The studio and the visit are described in Winifred's second book, 'Sunset House'. There is also a new photo of Elisabeth's lovely Castello around the time she bought it in the 1920's. The photo's are courtesy of Michael Brett & the Brett Family.

  • As a result of the sale of some of the books kindly donated by a site visitor, together with some unclaimed expenses donated by Maureen Emerson, the sum of £30 was sent at the end of the year to The Chailey Heritage, a special needs school in Sussex which Winifred Fortescue had supported during her time in that county. Thank you to everyone who has purchased books.
