Winifred Fortescue, was born on the 7th February 1888 at The Rectory, Great Bealings, Suffolk. Her father, The Rev. Howard Beech M.A. was rector of St. Mary's Church, Great Bealings. She was the third child of Howard & Henrietta Mildred Beech. She spent most of her very happy childhood in and around the Suffolk village and often returned to visit her parents after she had moved to London to take up an acting career at the age of 17 yrs.

In recent years The Old Rectory has been the home of Lord Belstead who died on 3rd December 2005. The following extract is provided by Bonhams of Ipswich who handled the sale of contents.

The House Sale
Wednesday 5 July 2006 at The Old Rectory, Great Bealings, Nr Woodbridge, Suffolk.
The sale of the contents of The Old Rectory Great Bealings, near Woodbridge raised more than £600,000 on July 5. The Old Rectory was the former home of Lord Belstead, a Conservative minister and Leader of the House of Lords under Margaret Thatcher's government. Lord Belstead was also Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk and had a great attachment to the Suffolk countryside and it was his collection of landscape paintings by East Anglian artist, Edward Seago, that proved particularly desirable on the day. All fourteen Seagos exceded their original estimates but the artists view of 'Barges at Pin Mill' on the East Anglian coast raised £37,200 against an estimate of £20,000 - £30,000.
