Following the closure of Winifred Fortescue's fashion and
interior design business, 'Cintra', in 1924, she discovered she had a talent for
writing. This was sometime before she embarked on her career in books. Winifred
produced regular articles for a number of publications including Punch, the
Daily Chronicle, the Evening News, finally inaugurating and editing a Woman's
Page for the Morning Post. She was also a regular contributor to The Readers
Digest and The Play Pictorial. A number of fascinating articles from The Play
Pictorial under the heading Modes and Morals are reproduced here, they
cover numerous topics including the fashion modes in the UK, France and the U.S.
There is another reproduction of Dog Stories from Punch.
